Google widens search engine lead

Google Inc. was the only major search engine to show an increase in user searches in May, accounting for 66.7 percent of U.S. searches, up 0.2 percent from April.

Yahoo Inc., now ranked third by search engine market share, saw traffic fall 0.1 percent, according to monthly data from Reston-based comScore Inc. Yahoo now accounts for 13.4 percent of U.S. searches. Microsoft properties, including Bing, rank second with a 15.4 percent share, unchanged from April.

Ask Network has a 3 percent market share, unchanged from April. AOL Inc. fell to 1.5 percent of searches, down 0.1 percent.

There were 17.5 billion explicit core searches conducted by U.S. users in May, up 2 percent from April.
